The Institute of the Arts Barcelona (IAB) is very pleased to welcome Erin B. Mee, Assistant Arts Professor in the Drama Department at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and Artistic Director at “This is not a Theatre Company”, for a webinar on Digital Performance with the MA Acting students on the 21st of April 2020.
Erin will talk about immersive digital theatre, theatre on-line, and audience engagement.
About the guest: Erin B. Mee has directed in some of the USA’s leading theatres including New York Theatre Workshop, the Joseph Papp Public Theatre, the Magic Theatre, the Guthrie Theater, HERE, The Ontological at St. Mark’s, SoHo Rep, and Judson Church. In addition, she has directed two productions in India with Sopanam, one of India’s leading theatre companies.
As Co-Artistic Director of This Is Not A Theatre Company, Mee has conceived and directed ‘Pool Play 2.0’, a view of the United States through our fascination with water (set in an actual pool); ‘A Serious Banquet’, an interactive cubist inner party based on the party Picasso threw for Henri Rousseau in 1908; ‘Ferry Play’, a pod play for the Staten Island Ferry; ‘Subway Plays’, a trilogy of pod plays for the NYC subway system; ‘Versailles 2015/17’ which is set in actual NYC apartments and deals with income inequality; ‘Cafe Play’ – set in an actual cafe – a look at the way we treat people we deem beneath us; ‘Readymade Cabaret’, a Duchamp-inspired readymade theatrical experience. Her book ‘The Theatre of Roots: Redirecting the Modern Indian Stage’ was published in 2009 by Seagull Books and Palgrave-McMillan (part of the Enactments series edited by Richard Schechner). She co-edited ‘Antigone’ on the Contemporary World Stage with Helene Foley (OUP 2011), and ‘The Methuen Anthology of Modern Asian Drama’ with Kevin Wetmore and Siyuan Liu (Methuen 2014). She is the editor of ‘Drama Contemporary: India’, a collection of modern Indian plays published in the United States by Johns Hopkins University Press and in India by Oxford University Press. Her articles have appeared in TDR, Theatre Journal, PerformingArts Journal, Seagull Theatre Quarterly, Performance Research International, and American Theatre Magazine; and in numerous books. She serves as Contributing Editor of TDR.
She is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, a member of the Lincoln Center Theatre Director’s Lab, and a Usual Suspect at New York Theatre Workshop.
